Sirius Science Fiction Editions

These books are deluxe, hardcover limited editions of classic science fiction in reprint, illustrated in a contemporary style by E.J. Gold, with signed frontispiece serigraphs bound into the books. A series in progress, available on a subscription basis, are the collections titled E.J. Gold's Guide to the Galaxy and Beyond the Unknown. Eight collections are planned for this series. Here you will find some of the most memorable short stories from the heyday of science fiction publishing in the fifties. The anthology Sense of Wonder Science Fiction, edited by Forrest J (Forry) Ackerman is a large collection of even earlier stories, a scintillating cross-section of memorable stories from the pulp magazines of the twenties and thirties. Full length titles in print include Jesus Christs by A.J. Langguth (a novel first published in the sixties) and Skulking Permit by Robert Sheckley. These two fiction volumes, as well as the Ackerman anthology, are signed by the author or editor as well as the artist.

E.J. Gold's Guide to the Galaxy and Beyond the Unknown -- Volume I

Gateways is proud to announce a new series of publications in the area of science fiction. Writers will include everyone you've heard of and admired--all the science fiction greats.

Fulfilling a decades-old dream, E.J. Gold, artist, author and composer, has assembled, in several volumes, stories which left the strongest impression on him during the years he spent devouring uncountable manuscripts submitted to his father, H.L. Gold, the editor of Galaxy Magazine.

With this incomparable background in science fiction, and over five million words of his own in print, Gold is probably one of the most qualified editors in the Solar System for this series, and it is with sheer delight that he has gathered some of the best stories ever written by some of the greatest writers in the field.

One of the most exciting aspects of this project is that Gold also illustrates these stories with original drawings. Never before has an anthology or an individual title been edited and illustrated by the same person equally recognized as a world-class writer, artist and editor. The entire series is projected to be eight volumes of stories--subscribers to the series will get a pre-publication discount on every new volume as it is published.

All of the stories included are archetypes of their genre. They variously display expanded realities, time-travel, technological magic, intra-species communication, alternate worlds, and a host of other mind-expanding themes in extremely unusual ways.

These volumes are sure to become the staple for an entire new generation of science fiction readers--and the definitive collections for future generations of fans. The stories and magazines published in the early days of Science Fiction, the '20s and '30s, are now very rare and collectible. With the classics of the '50s and '60s, why wait fifty or one hundred years in the future to look for these stories? Collect them now, in Sirius Science Fiction Editions! You can enjoy them for years to come and then pass them on to your children and grandchildren.

Contains:

Not According to Dante by Malcolm Jameson,
I'd Give a Dollar by Winston Marks,
Sine of the Magus by James E. Gunn,
The Wall Around the World by Theodore R. Cogswell,
Double Whammy by Fredric Brown.

This second volume gathers together for the first time anywhere, a handful of inspiring stories that are bound to set a new standard for dark fantasy and gothic tales. They include a classic novella on the science of spells by James Gunn, who heads the Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas. There is also the much-anthologized story by Theodore Cogswell which treats brilliantly the science versus magic theme. From Malcolm Jameson comes an archetypal story of hallucinatory nights in Dante's hell, while lesser-know Galaxy writer, Winston Marks, provides a memorable black-magic detective story. Science Fiction wizard, Fredric Brown supplies the volume's "chaser" with two potent short-shorts published together in Galaxy as Double Whammy.

This is a collection of classics rescued from paperback oblivion, reprinted in the dual-column layout of the fifties magazines--an instant collectible that you'll enjoy for years.

Jesus Christs by A.J. Langguth, illustrated by E.J. Gold

The idea behind this novel is mind-boggling. Suppose that the historical Jesus and his disciples are an archetype of divine revelation and there is, in every period of history, another Jesus with another set of disciples, exactly like the archetype except for the differences in culture and historical context. Sounds interesting. With Langguth working out the details, it's fascinating!

This book has been in demand since it was first released in the heady days of the late '60s. Somehow it gets lost or stolen from the libraries where it could once be found. Now it is available from Sirius Science Fiction with a new large-size format and a new series of drawings by E.J. Gold. Needless to say, this book is highly recommended for reading and savoring.
